Description: The history of GTE Corporation traces back to the 1920’s and was the largest independent telephone company in the US during the days of the Bell System. By the late 1980’s, GTE was operating not only in the United States but in some 40-odd countries as well. In the 2000’s GTE merged with Bell Atlantic and ceased to exist.
Description: General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (GTE ), was the largest independent telephone company in the United States during the days of the Bell System. The company was founded in 1934, with roots tracing back well into the 1920s. GTE's groundwork was laid by Wisconsin-based Associated Telephone Utilities Company in 1926, going bankrupt in 1933 during the Great Depression, and reorganizing as General Telephone & Electronics Corporation in 1934. While the company went through countless branding changes before being bought out by Bell Atlantic in 2000, this particular design is one of the most well-known logos that were in place throughout their last thirty or so years of operation.
Description: In 1986, the Supra dropped Celica from its name, and with the introduction of the fourth-generation model in late-'92, now shared about as many ties with the company's entry-level sport compact as it did with the brand's corny little Paseo. All of that was mostly because of the MkIV Supra's factory turbocharged 2JZ-GTE powerplant—an inline-six-cylinder engine so ready to make sobering sorts of horsepower that, even 28 years later, pro motorsports teams of all sorts still seek out the early '90s 3.0L just as they did decades prior. And for good reason. Few production engines before or since are capable of the sort of outlandish horsepower the 2JZ-GTE's good for with so few modifications.
