Description: The official logo of the Panama Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. Essentially a World's Fair, the expo was a celebration of both the completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of Balboa's discovery of the Pacific Ocean. It also helped showcase the city's recovery from the earthquake of 1906.
Description: 1876 print depicting the coat of arms from the great state of Maryland. Along the black banner is the state motto of " Fatti maschii parole femine " or " strong deeds, gentle words ". A second motto along the bottom banner " Scuto Bonae Voluntatis Tuae Coronasti Nos " translates to " With favor Wilt Thou Compass Us as a Shield ".
Description: From the 1930's, the seal of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's " New Deal ", the Civilian Conservation Corps provided work for millions of men during the Great Depression. From 1933 to 1942 these men provided manual labor needed to improve America's public lands, parks and forests.
Description: 1876 print depicting the coat of arms of the New Mexico Territory. The Roman numerals MDCCCL on the crest or ' 1851 ' are the date the territory was established. The Latin phrase along the banner " Crescit Eundo " or " It Grows as it Advances " refers to the growth of the territory which became a state in 1912.
Description: As early as 1892 New Mexico started referring to itself as ' The Sunshine State '. The first New Mexico license plates issued in 1932 had the nickname stamped along the bottom. Then around 1970, Florida decided " nah, were the sunshine state! ' and that was the end of New Mexico's nickname. Now the state is referred to as ' The Land of Enchantment '.
