Jungle Crews Pins and Buttons

Jungle Cruise Skippers are certainly a breed apart, and it's always good to have a distinct and clear image to show people your love of the Jungle and it's hippo inhabitants...

I don't know about you, but the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland has always made me wonder... what do Hippos watch for Saturday Morning Cartoons? Wait, I'm the only one? Really? Well, enjoy this shirt anyway. (Our artwork is art by Skippers, for Skippers, and this artwork by the magical Richard Wallace. Richard is also the artist for the King of the Skippers card game.)

There's a lot of myths out there in the world. Flat earthers, contrails, and that there were more than 3 Indiana Jones movies. This final one has never been proven, and there is no evidence to support it. Still, the Indiana Jones Trilogy are 3 of the best films in existence.

We wanted to show that Jungle Cruise Skippers have a heart. I, for example, have multiple ones, in jars... under my bed. But, enough about my weekend hobbies. We know that the heart of a Skipper beats with pure passion, amazing adventure, and silky sarcasm.

These four guys have been headlining their own variety show for over 50 years! That's amazing longevity in the entertainment biz. Their voices seem familiar, and their profile is out of this world! So, sit back and enjoy the show...

This is a reprint of a design we did for our 2016 Kickstarter campaign, and a few people have asked for it to be available again. Proudly proclaim that you are going to live life like it was a ride... a theme park ride... with fake animals. But one that you are going to conquer with style, panache, and a snappy hat. (As you may have noticed, much of our work revolves around Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Skipper culture. We host a podcast devoted to the subject, and these items are independent homages to the Golden Era of Adventure that the stories from the ride take place in.)

It's a phrase well known to those who frequent the Rivers of Adventure. A sign that the trip is beginning. A sign that the river awaits. A sign of things to come...

The boats of the Jungle Cruise use a signalling system involving shots on their .38 special pistols. 3 shots means your boat cannot proceed, and serves as a warning to those before and after you. Sometimes we have those moments in our lives. We can’t move forward or back. We’re stuck, where we are. The moments set in. The panic. The fear of being stuck in a boat (metaphorically) with 48 people staring at you for what seems like an hour. We all have felt the way we feel when a boat goes 3 Shot… But just keep calm. Let everyone know what is going on. That you’re all right. And just Three Shot…

We all have Partners and Spouses. People who are the center of our world, and we are theirs... But we know that the partners of Jungle Cruise Skippers are a special breed. They have to, well... put up with us. Put up with the jokes, the silliness, the horribly scheduled hours. But, still, at the end of the day, they are proud of us... Somewhat.

The Jungle Cruise at Disneyland had this wonderful thing called the "Jingle Cruise" for 3 years, celebrating the holidays in the Jungle. But it's gone for the second year in a row, and we wanted to put out a couple of products in support of getting it to come back next year! We love ourselves some Jingle Cruise.

We "Heart" hippos. As Jungle Cruise Skippers, we work with Hippos on a daily basis, and what isn't to love about them? From the way they playfully blow bubbles and wiggle their ears, to the playful way they charge the boats, knocking them over and spilling the precious cargo and passengers to the depths of the river. Adorable! We even have to playfully shoot into the air to scare them away. So much fun!

I don’t get the fascination with pirates. They were filthy, alcohol soaked, scurvy mouthed, bug ridden boat roaches. They didn’t have respect for a man’s property, respect for ladies, or even respect for basic hygiene. Yet, for some reason we idolize them, give them a theme park ride, and 5 movies. (one of which was good.) Give me a Jungle Skipper any day of the week… (As you may have noticed, much of our work revolves around Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Skipper culture. We host a podcast devoted to the subject, and these items are independent homages to the Golden Era of Adventure that the stories from the ride take place in.)

Another design that was lost in our early versions of the Skipper Store... (But TeePublic vintage shirts look great with this one) This was the logo from the non-existent "Skipper Con '72", a fictitious gathering of Jungle Cruise Skips in 1972.

On February 27th, 2020, the event known as the "Sinking of the Bomokandi Bertha" shook the internet. We take a moment to remember all the socks that were moistened, the memes that were born, and the Skippers who laughed their asses off. (Except for whomever was in the boat. Wow. Sympathy to you.)

Sure, we all know that the State Animal of California is a bear. (Wait, you knew that, right?) But, what of the noble and majestic Hippopotamus? This gentle yet deadly creature sums up the true dichotomy that is California. Plus, we all know that Hippos are only dangerous if they wiggle their ears and blow bubbles.

I've been trying to play with retro styles lately, and this was based off an old 1970's t-shirt that I found. I tried to imagine how this pattern would feel on an old shirt, so the tri-blend t-shirts with their heathered styles are probably the best fit. I also did a non-distressed version of this, if you aren't into a wash and wear feel.

To a Jungle Cruise Skipper, there's nothing like the feeling when you step into a bote. (Sure, some people call it a boat, but we know how to spell it.) It's a magical feeling, where you feel utterly comfortable to be yourself, and you know that you belong. In other words... home.

There's a lot of misconception about the misspellings of "Bote" that are out there. Some people even think there is an "A" in it. (I guess there is... "A bote") But, Jungle Skippers of modern generations know their vehicles of choice by this 4 letter name. Now, I don't know much about animals... Ok, I know nearly nothing about animals. But when I go to the zoo, there's one thing I do know. They call these ones, "Stripey Horseys"... (This shirt is in homage to the Jungle Cruise's very famous Stripey Horseys, who have been hanging out on the Veldt for a very long time... and yet few Skippers seem to be able to figure out what they really are...)

Explain a Jungle Cruise Skipper to someone who has never been on the ride? Ever been in a discussion with a Jungle Cruise Skipper, and the most random (but funny) joke or pun comes out? Well, it's because of the very unique qualities of the Jungle Cruise Skipper's brain. This is an approximate visual representation of it.

So, I could give you a nice long explanation of why the Skippers of Disney's Jungle Cruise ride spell it "Bote" when so many other people spell it "Boat". But, it's a long and boring story, with a lot of historical call backs to the 1970's and 80's... So, instead, I'll tell you that the primary people who are probably looking at this shirt are the Skippers and fans of the ride, because they were probably linked here because of the Jungle Crews podcast, the oral history of Disney's Jungle Cruise ride. Hundreds of hours of really great stories of an incredibly fun job that was loved by all.
