Old Castle Pins and Buttons

St Michael's Mount is a tidal island in Mount's Bay, Cornwall. The island is a civil parish and is linked to the town of Marazion by a causeway of granite setts, passable (as is the beach) between mid-tide and low water. The castle and chapel have been the home of the St Aubyn family since around 1650.

This is taken in front of the main gate that leads inside the famous Stirling Castle. It was too late to visit it but I definitely enjoyed the view and the amazing sunset! Would you like to travel to beautiful Scotland?

The oldest part of this structure, the five-storey tower with the small windows at the eastern end, dates from the late 15th century. The manor house, the rest of the building, was added on in the 1630s by Conor O'Brien. He went and got himself killed fighting Cromwell's troops in 1651. A study of a section of the magnificent Malmesbury Abbey. Situated in Wiltshire, England, the Abbey was founded around 676 as a Benedictine Monastery. The pretty town grew around the monastery and is now a thriving market town.

I walked alone through Hull, the city on the edge of my childhood world. As years pass, the cityscape changes, ebbs, decays and regrows. Yet Hull always takes me back in time and place to the earliest years of my life. I love to explore, to reaffirm and to day dream. An earliest memory is of seeing derelict buildings that seemed to be returning to nature, with tree branches growing through roofs and windows. I saw this now empty pub, shuttered and probably lost, and decided to paint it. I used collage, thick paint and vivid colour, and I wanted to capture the bright light and vivid hues. The work is an ideal and unique souvenir of Hull, a perfect gift too.

Portencross is situated West of West Kilbride on the West coast of Scotland. There are some houses, an old harbour and a castle which is currently being restored. It's a lovely spot and I've taken lots of good reference photographs and done a fair number of sketches for future paintings. Well worth a visit.

The historic Predjama Grad castle in Slovenia which dates back to the twelfth century. The fairytale-like castle is located in a limestone cliff in a cave entrance.

The narrow alleys of the Albaicín in the old city of Granada, Andalucia, Spain offer spectacular views across to the Alhambra on the opposite hillside. Calle Candil is one of the most emblematic of these. The lovely old buildings rising either side of are typical of this part of the City. A beautiful subject for a watercolour. Grayskull: The power

Cuesta Chapiz, runs down to the Rio Darro from the top of the old city of Granada. It divides the historic quarters, the Albaicin on the right from Sacromonte on the left and looks across to the Alhambra on the opposite hill.
