The rather elegant footbridge connects Christchurch Meadow Walk and Boathouse Island on the River Thames near Oxford. Passing under the bridge you would eventually meet with the River Cherwell which joins the Thames a little further downstream. To the right of the bridge are the University boathouses where the racing boats are stored. This image was captured from the Thames path on its way from Folly Bridge Oxford to Iffley.

Foreground building on the left. The Sheldonian Theatre, located in Oxford, England, was built from 1664 to 1668 after a design by Christopher Wren for the University of Oxford. The building is named after Gilbert Sheldon, chancellor of the university at the time and the project's main financial backer. It is used for music concerts, lectures and university ceremonies, but not for drama.

The Thames between Folly Bridge in Oxford and Iffley . A rowing boat is emerging from under the bridge which joins Boathouse Walk and Christ Church Meadow Walk. Next to this are some of the Oxford College boathouses on a stretch of the river famed for boat racing. Pleasure boats and punts are often to be seen here as well as rowing crews in training.

The village of Iffley itself is a conservation area, its narrow streets leading down to the river where you cross the weir to reach the lock.

The bridge spans the waterway and leads to Shipton village and the canalside church of Holy Cross. The canal was the brainchild of the engineer James Brindley who died before the start of construction. A dinghy moored on the Oxford Canal at Thrupp near Kidlington in Oxfordshire, England. The Oxford Canal, 77 miles long, was constructed in the late 1700s and was opened in stages between 1774 and 1790. The aim was to connect Coventry and its nearby coalfields with Oxford, the Thames and eventually London.
