American Pharoah This painting is of the 12th Triple Crown Winner, American Pharoah. He was the winner of the 2015 Triple Crown of American horse racing. Prior to his win, there was a 37 year drought as no horse was able to win all three races, the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes and The Belmont Stakes. The last winner before American Pharoah was Affirmed in 1978. This Triple Crown was extra special to me as it was the first in my lifetime. I would watch the races every year hoping for another super horse. While he may be no Secretariat, he still is pretty special. The Duel This is a digital painting of the duel between the 1978 Triple Crown winner, Affirmed and his close rival, Alydar. This is the finish line of the Belmont Stakes, the final leg of the Triple Crown. While the 1970's were fortunate enough to have 3 triple crown winners, of which Affirmed was the last, we went through a dry spell of no winners until 2015 when American Pharoah became the 12th and newest member of this elite club.
