Imperial County, along with San Diego County, comprises California’s Southern Border Region but their similarities pretty much end there. Whereas the presidio at San Diego was established by the Spanish in 1769 and is the oldest European settlement in the state. On the other hand, Imperial County, created in 1907, is California’s newest. Whereas San Diego County is the second most populous county in California, Imperial County is the least. San Diego’s climate is characterized as chaparral, Imperial County is located within the Colorado Desert. Glendale is the fourth most populous city in Los Angeles County (after Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Santa Clarita). Residents of a townsite chose the name "Glendale" in 1884. It was incorporated on 15 February 1906. Armenian Americans comprise over one-third of the population.

San Diego Map

An oil paint map that I did of the regions of Los Angeles and Orange counties.

I moved to Los Angeles in 1999. I couldn't find a map of all of the neighborhoods of the city. I set about making my own -- exploring the vast county on foot and mass transit. Along the way, I drew maps with ink and painted them in watercolors and oil paint -- or some combination (including correction fluid). As a lefty converted to a righty, my handwriting is terrible and my maps are sometimes hard to read when reproduced or reprinted -- and so I've made these clean, digital versions for people who prefer that sort of thing.

Metrolink is the regional train network for Southern California. Founded in 1991, it currently employ seven lines which serve 62 stations in six counties with 859 kilometers of track.
