In 1976, America celebrated her bicentennial and while there were countless designs commemorating the event, one of the most ubiquitous was this classic Spirit of 76 design, most commonly found as iron-ons for t-shirts and other soft goods. This design is a hand-drawn recreation based one of these from a new old stock source and includes plenty of wear and tear to give it a genuine vintage look.

Johnny Horizon was a mascot used by the Bureau of Land Management in the United States in the 1970s primarily for its anti-litter campaign. First used in 1968, Johnny resembled the classic cigarette pitchman, sans cigarette, with his straight jawed, rugged cowboy looks. The mascot reached his greatest use in the years leading up to the United States Bicentennial celebration, with the Johnny Horizon '76 campaign that encouraged Americans to pitch in and pick up litter throughout the country.

We're on the road again.

The U.S. Bicentennial saw a series of celebrations during the mid-1970s that paid tribute to the events leading up to the creation of the United States of America as an independent republic. The Bicentennial culminated on Sunday, July 4, 1976, with the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Founding Fathers in the Second Continental Congress. The county saw increased patriotism and unity during this time, and this '70s era design is just one example. Including interlocked hands and E pluribus unum (Latin for out of many, one), a traditional motto of the USA, along with the olive branch and arrows that denote the power of peace and war.
