Over just a few days these Omphalotus illudens (aka O. olearius) quite took over my yard. I suppose they are an early death knell for a stump that I have been landscaping for a few years. Tower Hill Reserve, Victoria, Australia, nestled inside a dormant volcano, is a beautiful haven for wildlife, including koalas, emus, kangaroos, sugar gliders and many species of water birds. A lake and wetland are features of the reserve, and during years of average rainfall it is not uncommon to see the wetland completely immersed in water. Volcanoes are so hot right now. Hope you like it!

Tower Hill, in Victoria, declared Victoria's first National Park in 1892, was formed at least 30,000 years ago when a hot rising basaltic magma came into contact with the subterranean water table. The violent explosion that followed created the funnel-shaped crater (later filled by a lake) and the islands seen today. Artefacts found in the volcanic ash layers show that Aborigines were living in the area at the time of the eruption. The Warrnambool area was a rich source of foods for the Koroitgundidj people, whose descendants retain special links with this country. Stormy skies over Collywell Bay, Seaton Sluice in Northumberland on the North East coast of England. The waves lead the eye towards St Mary's Island and lighthouse on the horizon and the sea stack known as Charley's Garden can be seen in the bay. The image has been converted to monochrome to emphasise the drama of the scene.

The sea stack in Collywell Bay, Seaton Sluice, Northumberland is known locally as Charlie's Garden from the time when it was much bigger and the top was alive with vegetation. This image was taken on a cold, wet and stormy November morning as the rough seas were splashing around the stack giving a good example of why it is constantly eroding.
