Description: Tower Hill Reserve, Victoria, Australia, nestled inside a dormant volcano, is a beautiful haven for wildlife, including koalas, emus, kangaroos, sugar gliders and many species of water birds. A lake and wetland are features of the reserve, and during years of average rainfall it is not uncommon to see the wetland completely immersed in water. It was voted into the *top ten* of the Country Victoria Avatar challenge, and the Australian Landscapes Avatar challenge 2017, and was *featured* in """""COUNTRY VICTORIA and """""MELBOURNE & VICTORIA". #volcanicstrata #landscapes #towerhill #nationalparksvictoria
Description: Over just a few days these Omphalotus illudens (aka O. olearius) quite took over my yard. I suppose they are an early death knell for a stump that I have been landscaping for a few years. Still for sheer quantity they are impressive... and for the graceful ruffles of their layers. Description: Tower Hill, in Victoria, declared Victoria's first National Park in 1892, was formed at least 30,000 years ago when a hot rising basaltic magma came into contact with the subterranean water table. The violent explosion that followed created the funnel-shaped crater (later filled by a lake) and the islands seen today. Artefacts found in the volcanic ash layers show that Aborigines were living in the area at the time of the eruption. The Warrnambool area was a rich source of foods for the Koroitgundidj people, whose descendants retain special links with this country. This photograph was *featured* in the Red Bubble groups 'Kanawinka Geopark Art' ' Wild Oz', and 'Country Victoria'. #volcanicstrata #landscapes
Lainbachtal - tilted rock strata (close-up) T-Shirt
by lightsfromouterspace
$16 $23
Description: I enjoyed painting this view, and especially all the strata in the rocks. It comes from Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic coast in Dorset, UK. Most visitors flock to the circular cove that gives the place its name, or head the other way from the large carpark, over the hill to the rock arch of Durdle Door. This view though is Stairhole - a rock formation between the two, where a sloping wall of rock allows the sea in through a few holes (two are shown here). Its a popular spot for adventurous types who play in the water and climb on the rocks, and also with geology students, but on a rough day like this it can be deserted. Painted in oil on a 16x12 inch board
