Around Athens are many architectural remnants of the glorious past of Greece, but the greatest of all is the assemblage of temples and the like within the Acropolis complex. This image is of the colonnade at the eastern end of the Erechtheion Those columns have stood there for maybe 2500 years. Remarkable! What I love about this image is the overall duo tone, the marble's orange against the cloudy blue sky.

Although 2500 years have taken their toll on the ancient marble, it is amazing how much extraordinary detail remains. The Ionic capital at the top of the fluted column retains all of its majestic beauty as it continues in its role of supporting the architrave above.
