The impression of this sign was so strong when I got off the train,although I had no collection in my memory during the previous visits, so I had to take a photo.

The first stone bridge over the River Tweed at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland (the northernmost town in England) was built in 1634. It is still there but is too narrow for modern traffic flows. The next bridge to be built was the Royal Border Bridge built in 1847-50 (a rail bridge) and finally, the bridge shown here, the second road bridge to be built over the River Tweed in 1928. Lord's Mount is an artillery bulwark built between 1541 and 1543 at the north-east angle of Berwick's medieval town walls. It is massive circular fortification with walls 6 metres (19.5 feet) thick. The lower floor survives with six casemates for long swivel guns and living accommodation, which included a kitchen with a well and oven, and a latrine. The upper floor, containing the captain's apartments, and an upper gun deck for six large guns, were demolished when the Elizabethan defences were begun in 1558. Berwick-upon-Tweed (pronunciation: berɪk), on the east coast at the mouth of the River Tweed is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border and forms part of the wider Borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The open ground of Magdalen Fields in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland (the northernmost town in England), is protected by the Bell Tower and an earthwork traverse line, which ends with the Great Bulwark Redoubt. The Bell Tower was built in 1577. It overlies an earlier tower on the line of the town defenses built by Edward I in 1296. Berwick-upon-Tweed (pronunciation: berɪk), on the east coast at the mouth of the River Tweed is situated 2.5 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border and forms part of the wider Borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed local government district. Being central to a border war between the Kingdoms of Scotland and England since the 11th century, the town has lain within England since 1482.

The former Guildhall (now the Town Hall) in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland (the northernmost town in England). The bells in the Town Hall are used to summon people to the church services at Holy Trinity Church which has no steeple, tower or church bell. It is no wonder that many visitors to Berwick mistake the Town Hall for the parish church. the Town Hall Bells also still ring the curfew at 8 o'clock every evening. The top floor used to be a jail and prisoners were aired on the balcony round the roof.

It was built for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway and is still in regular use today, as part of the East Coast Main Line. The bridge is 659 metres long. It has 28 arches (not all arches visible here), constructed of brick but aesthetically faced with stone. The bridge is 38 metres above the river itself. In the 1990s it underwent significant repair work for the first time.

Berwick upon Tweed, Royal Border Bridge 2009 marked the 150th anniversary of the death of the great railway engineer Robert Stephenson, who designed and constructed the iconic Royal Border Bridge, a 28-arch viaduct spanning the River Tweed at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. The construction of the bridge in 1850 was the final link in the direct railway route between London King's Cross and Edinburgh, today the Royal Border Bridge remains one of the most important structures in the modern rail network, carrying the East Coast Main Line over the River Tweed. As such Robert Stephenson has been responsible for bringing to Berwick-upon-Tweed and its hinterland much of its prosperity and wealth over the last 160 years. T...
