Brentford Lock, July 2018 Brentford is a town in Middlesex, England, part of the London Borough of Hounslow and the Greater London conurbation. It is built around the confluence of the rivers Thames and Brent, and its name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon 'Breguntford', meaning 'ford over the River Brent'. It is the first point on the tidal portion of the River Thames that would have been 'fordable', centuries before more recent dredging operations. The settlement was certainly in existence before the Roman invasion of Britain, and as such pre-dates the founding of the city of London. Brentford Dock was built in the 1850s by the great engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and linked the Great Western Railway to River Thames barge traffic. The...

This is an example of La Téne Celtic art which pre-dates the more commonly known knotwork and primarily found on metal objects. It is a simple image with a lot of impact.

On the Golden Mile of the The Great West Road in Brentford, London, you'll find the former Coty Cosmetics Factory. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Wallis Gilbert & Partners. It was completed in 1932 and until 1972 manufactured soaps, lipsticks, scents and creams. In my illustration I capture the essence of the building as it stood in 1932.

*GUC / GSK, Brentford, July 2021* The Grand Union Canal heads northwards from Brentford (West London, England) to Birmingham. On the opposite bank is the headquarters of the Glaxo Smith Kline pharmaceutical company. Date: 4th July 2021.

*Old Fire Station, Brentford, August 2020* The Old Fire Station at number 55 High Street, Brentford (London, England) was opened in 1898 at a cost of about £3,000. The Fire Station is a striking building by anyone's standards, with its red brick arches and red terracotta tiles. The fire engines based here were originally horse-drawn, the first motor engine being purchased in 1924. The building was modified several times between the 1920s and 1950s, and was used by the Ambulance service between 1965 and the 1980s. It became a listed building in 1990, and is now a popular restaurant and bar. Date: 2nd August 2020.

Soaphouse Creek, Brentford, London, July 2020 Soaphouse Creek is a small waterway in Brentford, West London (England) where several river craft such as barges can be moored. The creek takes its name from the Thames Soap Works, which occupied the site from 1799 to 1934, trading under the name of T B Rowe and Company.

Grand Union Canal, Brentford, August 2020 The Grand Union Canal is part of the British canal system. Its main line starts in London and ends in Birmingham, a total distance of 137 miles (220 km) with 166 locks. It also has arms to several places including Leicester, Slough, Aylesbury, Wendover and Northampton. The Grand Union Canal came into being on 1st January 1929, as a result of the amalgamation of several different canals, and at 286.3 miles (460.8 km), it is by far the longest (merged) canal in the UK. This shot was taken at the London end of the canal in Brentford, where the canal is linked to the River Thames. Kew Bridge, August 2020 Bridge over the River Thames (London, England) between Kew (in the county of Surrey) on the South Bank and Brentford (Middlesex) on the North Bank. Opened in 1903, the current bridge is the 3rd to be built across this stretch of the river. Prior to the first bridge being built a ferry was located here. The bridge is 1182 feet (360 metres) long and the largest of the three arches is 133 feet (41 metres). Date: 1st August 2020.
