Nicolaus Copernicus (born Niklas Koppernigk; in Latin, Nicolaus Copernicus; in Polish, Mikołaj Kopernik; in German, Nikolaus Kopernikus; Thorn, Royal Prussia, February 19, 1473-Frauenburg, Royal Prussia, May 24, 1543) was a Prussian Renaissance astronomer who formulated the heliocentric theory of the solar system, first conceived by Aristarchus of Samos.
