GDSF 2015 - Sentinel Steam Bus 'Martha' Number of views as of 17th April 2018 = 480. Built in 1932 (presumably at the Sentinel Waggon Works in Shrewsbury, England), this vehicle was originally a flatbed steam lorry. First purchased by the Cardiff Gas Light & Coke Company, it later worked in Ireland for 10 years and was transported back to England in the 1970s. Thirty years on, its owners at the time decided to convert the vehicle into a bus and obtained approval from the Ministry of Transport to carry fare-paying passengers, which it has been doing since 2005. GDSF 2015 - Foden 8 Wheeler Number of views as of 31st March 2019 = 600. A 1964 Foden 8 wheeler tipper truck, one of the commercial vehicle exhibits at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, Dorset. Powered by 150 horse power Gardner diesel engines, these trucks were a common sight on British roads in the 1960s, and had a reputation for quality and reliability. Foden Trucks was a British truck and bus manufacturing company, founded in 1856 in Sandbach, Cheshire. The company was acquired by American form Paccar in 1980, who ceased using the Foden marque in 2006. Thanks to owner and restorer, H.Turner of Cumbria, this Foden keeps on trucking. This 6x4 1957 Scammell Junior Constructor, in the livery of Wimpey Construction Ltd won 'best in show' in 2013 in the Diesel Heavy Haulage category. Date: 5th September 2015. GDSF 2015 - Old Tim Number of views as of 6th May 2018 = 390. Another shot from the 2015 Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandord, Dorset. Originally built in 1910 for Screen Bros of Oldbury, Birmingham, this Burrell steam-powered road locomotive and crane 'Old Tim' worked through two world wars hauling boilers, castings, broken-down tramcars and anything large! GDSF 2015 - Gigantic Number of views as of 17th January 2018 = 1220. A 1912 McLaren road haulage locomotive, originally built for Port Adelaide Corporation in South Australia. Bought for 50 quid in 1978 and shipped to the UK in a container. Much restoration work followed before the engine was finished in its current War Department livery to represent one of the 55 locomotives built by McLaren for use during the First World War for relocating heavy artillery. Seen here at the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2015 at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, working up a head of steam, coupled with another McLaren 'Boadicea' and hauling a low-loader carrying a railway locomotive. GDSF 2015 - Stanley Steam Car Number of views as of 16th April 2018 = 520. This Stanley EX, 10 horse-power steam car, built in 1907, is still capable of quite a turn of speed, and is seen here being put through its paces at the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, Dorset, England. This car is one of only three in the United Kingdom and one of only 31 in the world. The Stanley Motor Carriage Company was based in Newton, Massachusetts in the United States and manufactured steam powered vehicles including this one between 1902 and 1924. The company was founded by twin brothers Francis and Freelan Stanley, who produced their first car in 1897. Date: 5th September 2015.

The Badger Dray Number of views as of 29th August 2018 = 1870. The greenest way to deliver beer! A brewer's dray pulled by a pair of Suffolk Punch horses, captured in the 'pairs' class at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, Dorset, England. The dray is owned by local firm Hall & Woodhouse (established 1777), who brew their popular range of beers at the Badger brewery just down the road at Blandford St Mary. Date: 4th September 2010.

Lancashire Lass - a Family Connection Number of views as of 19th June 2018 = 800. I was delighted to find this Gardner diesel-engined 1957 Atkinson drop-sided lorry at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Not only because it's a fine vintage commercial vehicle, but also because there's a family connection. George Preston was in fact my uncle, whose father (George senior) started the fuel and haulage business in Earby (England) on the Lancashire/Yorkshire border. After the closure of the Colne to Skipton railway line, the company had their depot at the old station yard in Earby. Date: 4th September 2010.

A Foden steam lorry in the livery of New Forest cobbler George Knight pictured in the main arena at the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, Dorset, England. Foden Trucks was a British truck and bus manufacturing company originating from Sandbach, Cheshire, founded in 1856. Production switched from steam powered vehicles to diesels in the 1930s. The last Foden rolled off the production line in 2006. Date: 4th September 2010.

Robey Steam Engine Number of views as of 4th March 2018 = 700. Another exhibit being put through its paces at the Great Dorset Steam Fair at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford, Dorset, England. The Robey company was founded in Lincoln in 1854 and began by manufacturing threshing machines. Later, the company diversified into steam engines, steam rollers, steam wagons, boat engines and even aircraft during the First World War. At the International Exhibition in Paris in 1878, their steam engine was the only one to run for the entire exhibition without breaking down, earning them a prestigious 'Gold Medal' award. The engine shown is in the livery of Jesse Parker, of Ringwood, Hampshire. Date: 4th September 2010.

Showman's Engines Number of views as of 1st April 2019 = 1400. A showman's engine or road locomotive is a steam-powered, road-going vehicle designed to provide power and transport for a travelling fair or circus. Similar to other steam-powered, traction engines, showman's engines have a number of distinguishing features including a full-length canopy, a dynamo mounted in front of the chimney, brightly coloured paintwork and ornate decorations. Many were also fitted with rows of electric lamps to enhance their appearance at night. The dynamo was used to generate electricity to illuminate and power various fairground rides. The 2014 event takes place from the 27th to the 31st of August at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum, Dorset. The GDSF is now in its 46th year, and the 600 acre site makes it one of Europe's largest outdoor events. As well as a celebration of all things powered by steam, the event also features vintage, veteran and classic cars, motorcycles, agricultural machinery, military vehicles, heavy horses, fun fair and loads more.
