Another view of The Golden Gate Bridge. Again,taken on a hot sunny day, from the trail above the beaches. 27 and 28 May 2012 saw the 75th anniversaries of Pedestrian Day and the opening to traffic (respectively) of the Bridge. From sea level to the top of the towers is just shy of 755 feet. Each tower has an estimated 600,000 rivets. It is said there have been over 1.75 billion crossings since then. In 1994 The Golden Gate Bridge was named one of the Seven Civil Engineering Wonders of the United States by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Doing the touristy thing ... a boat trip on San Francisco Bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge and back again. This coming week (27 and 28 May 2012) sees the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge to pedestrians and traffic respectively ... over 1.75 billion crossings later and still going strong.
