Greek vase scene derived from the antique bookplates in L'ornement Polychrome (1888) by Albert Racinet.

Arsinoe II was one the most powerful queens to ever rule in the ancient world, and the first woman to have her own portrait on a coin. After the death of her children, she was deified in her lifetime and co-reigned as pharaoh of Egypt along side her brother Ptolemy Philadelphus. It's also said that she personally won three yes THREE Olympic chariot races :o Yeah, we've got ancient queen envy too.

This is a 6th c. BCE Attic kylix by the Pistoxenos Painter. You can find it in the Carlotta Museum in Stockholm. It's also been made into a popular meme!

This design is based on an Athenian Kantharos (a type of drinking cup) that's in the Met's collection. This is a particularly fine example, decorated with palms and olives. The olives also call to mind Athens' patron goddess, Athena, and the foundation myth of the city.

This artistic interpretation is based on the reconstruction made by Emile Gilliéron. This fresco was excavated in fragments from the Minoan powerhouse of Knossos in 1914, dating to the Late Minoan IB period. Today, it can be viewed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art

This attic red-figure owl design was inspired by a kalpis at the Getty Institute. It dates to 480–470 B.C. and features an owl and olive branches, symbols of Athens' patron goddess Athena. The attribution lies somewhere in the Group of the Floral Nolans .

The Athenian silver tetradrachm was one of the most instantly recognizable coins in the ancient Mediterranean world. The olive and owl are symbolic of Athena, the patron goddess of the city-state of Athens. The crescent moon we think was added at a later date to commemorate the Battle of Salamis.
