Hartland Point lighthouse was opened 1st July 1874 and in 1984 the light house was automated. The fog horn give a 5 second blast every minute which can be heard from two miles away.

The weather was starting to close in giving the sea beautiful blue and green tones which contrasted against the white lighthouse and dark grey clouds that had just starting to roll in with people canoeing just beyond the lighthouse. Hartland point is a picturesque place to visit and it changes every time you visit it.

The lighthouse here was built by Trinity House in 1874, to guide shipping entering the broad mouth of the Bristol Channel. The awesome 325 foot high rocky outcrop towering above the lighthouse was known to the Romans as the 'Promontory of Hercules'. Lundy Island can be seen on the horizon a dozen miles away. Hartland is a rocky outcrop of land on the north-western tip of the Devon coast in England. Hartland marks the western limit (on the English side) of the Bristol Channel with the Atlantic Ocean continuing to the west. This location was known to the Romans as the "promontory of Hercules".

Damehole Point, North Devon, England Number of views as of 19th June 2018 = 450. From Hartland Abbey, a footpath leads down the valley to a small, secluded beach. Climbing the hill to the north offers this view of Damehole Point (top left). Beyond Damehole (and not visible in this shot), lies Hartland Point lighthouse.
