Despite frequent appearances in the Macroverse, Ludlow, Maine is actually not a fictional town. Like the fictionalized version, the town is in Aroostook County, just west of Houlton. Ludlow has a population of a little over 400, but the Macroverse version of the town has a population of around 1,000. The real town was founded in 1864, where the fictional was founded in 1774. Ludlow, Maine also isn't called 'The Cradle of Maine,' but that certainly plays into making the fictional version a little more intriguing, don't you think?

I believe this vintage hydrant was manufactured by Ludlow Valve Mfg. Co of Troy, New York and would be a version of their List 75 model.

In the grounds of Ludlow Castle, England. Ludlow Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in the town of the same name in the English county of Shropshire, standing on a promontory overlooking the River Teme. The castle was probably founded by Walter de Lacy after the Norman conquest and was one of the first stone castles to be built in England. During the civil war of the 12th century the castle changed hands several times between the de Lacy's and rival claimants, and was further fortified with a Great Tower and a large outer bailey. In the mid-13th century, Ludlow was passed on to Geoffrey de Geneville who rebuilt part of the inner bailey, and the castle played a part in the Second Barons' War.
