A characteristic element of the area is the Stagnone Nature Reserve, a marine area with salt pans. Marsala is built on the ruins of the ancient Carthaginian city of Lilybaeum and includes in its territory the archaeological site of the island of Motya, an ancient Phoenician city. The historic center of Marsala is small and intimate, and can be explored on foot in a couple of hours. Marsala is a place to be enjoyed slowly. From its baroque historic center to its salt pans and the island of Mozia, discovering it in small sips leaves a pleasant aftertaste... of wine.
