This corner of Calle Puerto in Ohanes is typical of the pretty street scenes in the villages of La Alpujarra Almeriense, Almeria, Andalucia, Spain which I love to paint in watercolour. Previously for these paintings I have used the traditional method of painting on Arches watercolour paper. This painting, however, is a watercolour on canvas especially primed for watercolour. I found the smooth surface of the canvas produces a greater luminosity in the pigments. Using a special fixative varnish enables the canvas to be displayed like an oil painting instead of behind a mount and glass. Winner of the FAA art contest for Women Painters, November 2023.
