If a tinker was my trade, I'd be a traveling repairman (or woman) of pots and pans. Bear in mind, this would be back in the day when pots and pans were made of quality cast iron, and not cheap aluminum from Wal Mart. The "dam" is a wad of putty with a layer of solder over the top to plug the holes.
