John Brown and Company of Clydebank was a British marine engineering and shipbuilding firm. It built many notable and world-famous ships including RMS Lusitania, RMS Aquitania, HMS Hood, HMS Repulse, RMS Queen Mary, RMS Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Elizabeth 2. At its height, from 1900 to the 1950s, it was one of the most highly regarded, and internationally famous, shipbuilding companies in the world. However thereafter, along with other UK shipbuilders, John Brown's found it increasingly difficult to compete with the emerging shipyards in Eastern Europe and the far East. In 1968 John Brown's merged with other Clydeside shipyards to form the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders consortium, but that collapsed in 1971.

The Great Lakes Engineering Works (GLEW) was a leading shipbuilding company with a shipyard in Ecorse, Michigan, that operated between 1902 and 1960. Within three years of its formation, it was building fifty percent of the tonnage of all ships in the Great Lakes. During World War II, GLEW was commissioned by Pittsburgh Steamship Company and the U.S. Maritime Commission to build twenty-one ore freighters. Its innovations included the first self-unloader freighter, SS Wyandotte. GLEW is best known for its construction of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald.

When Harland died in 1895, William James Pirrie became the chairman of the company until his death in 1924. Thomas Andrews also became the general manager and head of the draughting department in 1907. It was in this period that the company built Olympic and the two other ships in her class Titanic and Britannic between 1909 and 1914, commissioning Sir William Arrol & Co. to construct a massive twin gantry and slipway structure for the project. In 1912, due primarily to increasing political instability in Ireland, the company acquired another shipyard at Govan in Glasgow, Scotland. Tagge Industries Shipyards Limited was a subsidiary of Tagge Company that specialized in the production of starships. The company was responsible for the creation and distribution of the Achtnak Turbine Station and the Modular taskforce cruiser into the Imperial Navy. They also created the House of Tagge Mining Explorer, merchant ship and battlecruiser.

Rendili StarDrive was a starship-manufacturing company based on the planet Rendili. One of the ancient Founding Shipwrights, it was the primary supplier of ships to the Republic Navy for millennia until it was eclipsed in the final centuries of the Galactic Republic by Kuat Drive Yards.

The Gyndine shipyards were shipyards located at the administrative world of Gyndine. According to a report from a mole in the Pyke Syndicate that made its way to New Republic Intelligence Agent Caern Adan[1] around 5 ABY, a damaged Imperial Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier had arrived at the shipyards seeking assistance. Adan reviewed the report with his colleague Yrica Quell, the pair searching for leads on the activity of the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. Quell, believing the source was reliable but feeling that the information was insufficient, marking it with a medium-confidence indicator.

Endurance was the three-masted barquentine in which Sir Ernest Shackleton and a crew of 27 men sailed for the Antarctic on the 1914–1917 Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. The ship, originally named Polaris, was built at Framnæs shipyard and launched in 1912 from Sandefjord in Norway. After her commissioners could no longer pay the shipyard, the ship was bought by Shackleton in January 1914 for the expedition, which would be her first voyage. A year later, she became trapped in pack ice and finally sank in the Weddell Sea off Antarctica on 21 November 1915. All of the crew survived her sinking and were eventually rescued in 1916 after using the ship's boats to travel to Elephant Island.

RMS Titanic was a British passenger liner, operated by the White Star Line, which sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, UK, to New York City, United States. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making it the deadliest sinking of a single ship up to that time. It remains the deadliest peacetime sinking of a superliner or cruise ship. The disaster drew public attention, provided foundational material for the disaster film genre, and has inspired many artistic works.

Kuat Drive Yards (KDY) was a starship manufacturer based on the planet Kuat. The main production facility of Kuat Drive Yards was the Kuat Drive Yards Orbital Shipyards, a ring around the planet Kuat. It produced many of the galaxy's most terrifying symbols of Imperial might, including the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, and also produced walkers such as the All Terrain Defense Pod. It had several subsidiaries, with Kuat Vehicles focusing on civilian ground products and Kuat Systems Engineering producing starfighters.

Duro Starshipwright Shipyards, abbreviated to DSS, were a number of orbital shipyards over the planet of Duro. They were very large stations, capable of accommodating a wide variety of starships.

StarDrive was associated with companies such as Rendili Vehicle Corporation, Rendili/Vaufthau Shipyards LTD., and Rendili-Surron. Rendili Star Systems was apparently a subsidiary of Rendili StarDrive.

Bothawui Shipyards was a starship manufacturer. Toward the end of the Galactic Civil War, the Bothans began production of the Bothan Assault Cruiser. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, they also made a type of Star Destroyer.

Juggerhead was the code-name of the Imperial-owned naval yards at Bestine IV which were the secret site of research and development on the TIE torpedo. Bestine IV was chosen by the Galactic Empire as the site of new, high-security naval shipyards in 3 BBY. Unlike most naval yards, this was to be located directly on the water of Bestine instead of in a zero-gravity environment. Although the shipyard to all outward appearances manufactured shells for Acclamator-class assault ships, it was in reality conducting research and development on the TIE torpedo.
