Description: The Jackson Railroaders were a Minor League Baseball team that played in the Class D Kentucky–Illinois–Tennessee League in 1903. They were located in Jackson, Tennessee, and were named for the city's association with the railroad industry, which was an important part of the city's economy; Jackson was also the home of locomotive engineer Casey Jones. The Railroaders played their home games at Lakeview Ball Park.
Description: The La Junta Railroaders were a minor league baseball team based in La Junta, Colorado. The Railroaders played in the 1912 season as members of the Class D level Rocky Mountain League. La Junta hosted home games at City Park. In 1912, minor league baseball began in La Junta, Colorado. The La Junta Railroaders became charter members of the four–team Class D level Rocky Mountain League. The league started the season with the Cañon City Swastikas, Colorado Springs Millionaires and Pueblo Indians teams joining the La Junta Railroaders in Rocky Mountain League play.
Description: Cabooses, also referred to as 'hacks' in railroad jargon, are one of the more enduring symbols of railroads. With a viewing cupola on the roof, the main role of these cars was so that the crew could watch the train as it moved and ensure there were no issues or disconnects. At one point, railroad crews consisted of up to five men, so the caboose also served as a rolling hotel. Equipped with bunks, a stove, and a bathroom, these cars were home away from home. Like many things, the caboose and her crew were eventually replaced by technology, and train crews launched the 'Trains Are Safer With a Caboose' campaign to save them (and their jobs). Obviously, we know how that turned out, as it's rare sight these days, but they are still around!
