Sukkah Shorts
Description: This charming Sukkot illustration collection features nine festive symbols including a lulav and etrog tied with a striped ribbon, a decorated sukkah with lanterns and a table set for a holiday meal, a peace dove with floral wing patterns, a Star of David centered around an etrog, a lemon and palm branch arrangement, a Jerusalem skyline framed with hanging etrogs, a decorative lantern surrounded by citrus branches, a wreath of etrogs and jasmine flowers, and a rustic table set with a fruit bowl and pitcher. Rendered in a warm palette of golden yellow, deep navy, cream, and green, each icon beautifully captures the harvest joy and traditional imagery of the Sukkot holiday.
Description: “Ethrogim from Erez Israel.” Poster published in 1935, promoting Israel’s etrogs (yellow citron fruit) for the Sukkot holiday. Designed by Meir Gur-Arieh. Public domain, via PPPA. Meir Gur-Arieh (1891–1951) was born in Bobruisk, Russia, to a Hasidic family. He studied art in Russia before continuing studies at Bezalel in Jerusalem, and later, taught at Bezalel. Gur-Arieh produced numerous agricultural and promotional posters for Eretz Israel, featuring Jewish holiday imagery and promoting local produce. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
