Sukkah Socks
Description: “Ethrogim from Erez Israel.” Poster published in 1935, promoting Israel’s etrogs (yellow citron fruit) for the Sukkot holiday. Designed by Meir Gur-Arieh. Public domain, via PPPA. Meir Gur-Arieh (1891–1951) was born in Bobruisk, Russia, to a Hasidic family. He studied art in Russia before continuing studies at Bezalel in Jerusalem, and later, taught at Bezalel. Gur-Arieh produced numerous agricultural and promotional posters for Eretz Israel, featuring Jewish holiday imagery and promoting local produce. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
