Description: The Mirage was a 3,000-room Polynesian-themed hotel and casino located on 3400 South Las Vegas Boulevard on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Opening in 1989, the Mirage was home to an infamous volcano, an exotic atrium located in the middle of the casino, a dolphin habitat, and numerous entertainment residencies. At the time the grand opening, it was the world's most expensive resort, completed at a cost of $630 million, and was also among the world's largest hotels. The Mirage was the first megaresort to open on the strip, and is credited with launching the family-friendly era of Las Vegas in the '90s, with the openings of multiple hotels and casinos that accommodated families with non-gambling and drinking fare.
