Description: “Buy matzah from the biggest mills in Eretz-Israel” (Hebrew.) Poster published in 1925 by Milpalim Flour Mill, Haifa, Israel. Designed by Ze’ev Raban, Public domain, via PPPA. Ze’ev Raban (1890-1970) was born in Poland and studied applied art and sculpture in Munich, Paris, and Brussels before joining the Bezalel School in Jerusalem as a teacher in 1912. The poster, a lithograph, promotes the sale of locally made Passover matzah. It depicts a scene from Exodus, with a family preparing for their journey and a long line of people and animals traveling. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
Description: Burma-Shave was introduced in 1925 by the Burma-Vita Co. of Minneapolis. The company's original product was a liniment with ingredients described as being "from the Malay Peninsula and Burma" (hence its name). Sales were sparse, and the company sought to expand sales by introducing a product with wider appeal. The result was the Burma-Shave brand of brushless shaving cream and its supporting advertising program using humorous rhyming poems on small sequential signs along highways. Sales increased and at its peak, Burma-Shave was the second-highest-selling brushless shaving cream in the US. Sales began declining in the '50s and in 1963 the company was sold and by the end of the decade, Burma-Shave would be no more.

Description: Used car lots have always had some reputational issues to deal with, even back in the early days of the automobile. While certified used cars are quite common today, the 'OK Used Cars' program was Detroit's attempt at combatting negative opinions about buying a used car by creating the first certification program. 'OK Used Cars' had completed a series of tests before being certified, including a thorough inspection, complete servicing, and several points of reconditioning. The certified vehicles would be added to the lot with a warranty included, something that was previously unheard of with a used car. The program was a success, and would grow and evolve, but by the '50s, the 'OK Used Cars' sign could be found at car lots in everywhere.
