Description: It's the kind of house they don't build anymore. A relic of a time when the world wasn't in such a hurry. Soon after the Lutz family moved in, the horror began. George and Kathy's bedroom - the eyes at the window. The sewing room - so many flies. The living room - an unnatural cold. The basement - the hidden red room.
Description: The Amityville Horror house is located on the south shore of Long Island, New York. On November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. shot and killed six members of his family at 112 Ocean Avenue, a large Dutch Colonial house situated in the suburban neighborhood of Amityville. He was convicted of second-degree murder in November 1975 and sentenced to six sentences of 25 years to life in prison. DeFeo would die in custody in March 2021. In December 1975, George and Kathy Lutz and their three children moved into the house. After 28 days, the Lutzes fled the house, claiming to have been terrorized by paranormal phenomena while living there.

On November 13, 1974, the estate was the scene of mass murder. Using a .35 Marlin rifle, 23-year-old Ronald J. DeFeo Jr. murdered his entire family while they were asleep, which included his parents and four siblings. Thirteen months later, the Lutz family purchased the home at a drastically reduced price of $80,000 (due to the murders) but only lasted 28 days before leaving it. Their spine-tingling tales of paranormal activity is what propelled the legend of the Amityville Horror and spawned a torrent of books, documentaries and films.
