A rare woman of her time to shine thanks to her talent as a Caravaggesque painter, she also embodies the image of resilience. Raped at the age of 17 by one of her teachers, then humiliated during a painful trial, she exorcised this crime through painting. A devotee of great heroines, she revisited biblical themes of feminine modesty and revenge. Around 1612, she painted Judith Slaying Holofernes, a biblical scene that represents feminine power and rage.
