Description: Bronze Statue of a Woman. Part of my ancient artifact series. I love going to museums and antique markets to see what people created hundreds of years ago, and I've decided to draw some of my favourite pieces as a way of being able to keep them alive and share them with more people.
Description: This powerful image is a portrait of an authentic leopard head mask from Benin. The ring at the top of the leopard's head is designed for attaching the mask to a belt, to be worn by tribal chiefs & warriors. Bronzes from the Benin & Ife regions of Nigeria are some of the most notable & sought after sculptures from tribal Africa. Leopards are a royal symbol in the Benin kingdom, & are often portrayed in the art objects & artifacts of the Benin culture. This bronze sculpture of three Native American Spirited Warriors riding off to battle was designed by Oglala artist Colleen Cutschall. It is a part of the circular Indian Memorial at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana. Within the full circle are granite panels containing photographic images of and quotes from chiefs and warriors. In addition, each tribe worked to identify those who fought and those who died so their names could be listed. ........................................................... Description: This is an image of the statue of King Svatopluk sitting astride a rearing horse outside Bratislava Castle. The king ruled in the region in the late 9th century, so it's been a while. The statue though is quite modern, which upon being unveiled in 2010 caused quite a stir, because of inscriptions and an emblem on the shield, both of which were either removed or hidden. Anyway, controversaries aside, this is a very dramatic statue with a magnificent backdrop. The castle itself, perched on a hill, overlooks the Danube, which makes the entire setting quite dramatic.
Description: Black and white photo of Atlas, a bronze statue in Rockefeller Center, within the International Building's courtyard, in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is across Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick's Cathedral. The sculpture depicts the ancient Greek Titan Atlas holding the heavens (globe) on his shoulders. Atlas is depicted carrying the celestial vault on his shoulders. The north-south axis of the armillary sphere on his shoulders points towards the North Star's position relative to New York City.
