Description: The Duquesne Brewing Company was officially incorporated on April 4, 1899. The first president was Henry Miller, formerly a furniture salesman. The original trademark of the brand was a depiction of Fort Duquesne (though it actually featured a depiction of the Fort Pitt Blockhouse with the words "Fort Duquesne" underneath it), and the more recognizable "Prince of Pilsners" trademark was added later. The brewery decided to use refrigerated train cars to ship the beer, an innovative move in the early twentieth century. A Chicago stockyard man, Max Epstein, connected Duquesne with Armour and Company, and had Duquesne's company logo emblazoned on one of the cars. Description: The Peter Hand Brewing Company was an American brewery established in 1891 by Prussian immigrant, Peter Hand, in Chicago, Illinois. The brewery continued to grow and though it was officially closed between 1920 and 1933 as a result of prohibition, the company survived and expanded several times. In 1965, an investor group purchased the brewery and renamed the company Meister Brau, intending to further expand and begin national distribution. The company spent heavily on marketing, particularly in their hometown of Chicago, and sponsored all the local sports teams, as well as a popular radio show. When the brewery closed in 1978, it was the last brewing company in Chicago.

Description: Often described as the gay Cheers, Little Jim’s was the first gay bar in Boystown when it opened in 1975, making it the second-oldest gay bar in Chicago. In the early days, the bar had darkened windows to protect the safety of its customers. Within a few years of opening, more gay bars followed Little Jim's lead into the neighborhood. The divey, late-night spot became both a Boystown institution and one of the longest-running independently owned bars in the Chicago. A big part of the bar's legacy is that it was the first and only bar on Halsted Street to be fully integrated. Black, white, and Hispanic people all mingled and socialized there – literally everyone was welcome.
