This poster is a striking example of early 20th century commercial art, blending whimsical imagery with bold messaging. By the 1920s, advances in refrigeration and steam shipping opened North American and European markets, transforming Jaffa orange exports into a major industry. Exporters felt that pairing orientalist imagery with local motifs would entice Western consumers. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

Description: “Eat Sheep Cheese From Tnuva Farms.” (Hebrew.) Circa 1935. Published by Tnuva Central Cooperative for the Marketing of Agricultural Produce in Israel, Ltd. Designed by Otte Wallish, Ernst Mechner, Public domain, via PPPA. Otte Wallish (1906-1977) was born in Austria-Hungary, and Ernst Mechner (1895-1956) in Germany. Wallish had a graphic design studio in Tel Aviv where he designed Israeli’s first postage stamps and many posters for Tnuva and Osem. Mechner designed posters for the JNF, Histadrut, and Tnuva. They are jointly credited on many posters. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
Description: Antifa: Anti Fascist Action circa 1945 — Rosenthal’s flag-raising reborn: five soldiers heave the Stars and Stripes skyward, bodies straining through rubble that feels less like Iwo Jima than today’s America. Above them, block letters sneer and proclaim: “ANTIFA CIRCA 1945.” The irony cuts deep—yesterday’s antifascists are hailed as heroes, today’s are smeared as villains. The flagpole juts like an exclamation point, a rallying cry and a jab at hypocrisy. The image doesn’t whisper—it shouts: Fascism wasn’t patriotic then, and it isn’t now.
Description: This is a photo of a vintage 1960s Courier 1M Citizens Band Radio with its microphone shown in front of the speaker grill. I used it to talk with friends in the late 1960s, when it was popular, and kept it for nostalgia as memorabilia.

Description: Vitruvian Man, by Leonardo Da Vinci, Man's neck and shoulders, Circa 1490. From The Drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci by A E Popham 2nd edition published 1947. Note the image is the correct way round. Da Vinci wrote in his own shorthand and also practised mirror writing. There are numerous speculations as to why he did this, but probably he was just doing it because he could, and it defied convention.

Franz Krausz (1905-1998) was one of Israel’s most accomplished poster artists. Austrian-born, he made Aliyah to Tel Aviv in 1934. The poster features the Seven Species of Deuteronomy. It was used by the JNF for fundraising and promotion. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

Shalom Aharoni, born in 1908 in Rehovot, Israel, was a professional sculptor. He sculpted in stone, clay, and marble. This is Shalom Aharoni’s single recorded commercial poster. Description: A digital drawing depicting the steam locomotive Flying Scotsman with number 60103 as it would have been seen between 1961 and 1963. In 1954 it was converted to left hand drive with the vacuum exhaust ejector pipe and the reversing rod moved to the left-hand side from the right and painted in BR green. In 1959 the chimney was replaced with a double chimney and in 1961 the smoke deflectors were added. Flying Scotsman ended service with its last scheduled run on 14 January 1963.

Description: A colour artwork depicting the steam locomotive Flying Scotsman as it would have been seen Circa 1930 with LNER apple green livery. This is the classic image of Flying Scotsman with the letters LNER on the tender and 4472 on the cab. From 1928 to 1936 Flying Scotsman had a corridor tender giving the crew access to the locomotive from the train. This enabled it to travel from London to Edinburgh in eight hours changing the crew without stopping.
