Description: We love this Pittsburgh Hornets logo, from near the end of the team's first iteration at Duquesne Gardens and kind of a hybrid between the traditional red and white colors that the Hornets were known for, and the "Pittsburgh Black and Gold" that they briefly wore for a couple of seasons earlier in the 1950s!

Public domain, via PPPA. Zvi Berger (1935-1986) was born in Haifa. He graduated from the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and was a graphic artist for Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael - the Jewish National Fund (KKL JNF.) This silkscreened poster was a recruitment/appeal to Jewish youth to support the establishment and defense of settlement outposts, by Keren Hayesod and youth movements. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.

This poster is a striking example of early 20th century commercial art, blending whimsical imagery with bold messaging. By the 1920s, advances in refrigeration and steam shipping opened North American and European markets, transforming Jaffa orange exports into a major industry. Exporters felt that pairing orientalist imagery with local motifs would entice Western consumers. Using a variety of graphic design tools, I created a restored and enlarged reproduction of this historical Israeli poster, based on a rare photo of the original poster in an archive.
