Cold World Socks
Description: CONELRAD (Control of Electromagnetic Radiation) was a method of emergency broadcasting to the public of the United States in the event of enemy attack during the Cold War. It was intended to allow continuous broadcast of civil defense information to the public using radio stations, while rapidly switching the transmitter stations to make the broadcasts unsuitable for Soviet bombers that might attempt to home in on the signals (as was done during World War II, when German radio stations, based in or near cities, were used as beacons by bomber pilots). President Harry S. Truman established CONELRAD in 1951. CONELRAD was replaced by the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) in 1963, which was replaced by the Emergency Alert System in 1997.

Description: In the 1940s, several projects to modernize and reconstruct battleships were developed. One of them (the least insane) was the conversion of the last two Iowa-class battleships into escort ships for aircraft carriers. According to the project, turrets with rapid-firing 203 mm guns were to be mounted instead of the main battery; however, this never materialized.

Description: Shadows of War: Atomic Mushroom Cloud — A haunting black-and-white illustration captures a young girl kneeling before a vintage television, mesmerized by a stark image of an atomic mushroom cloud. Set in a dimly lit, wood-paneled room with framed family photos askew, the scene evokes themes of innocence, media influence, and nuclear anxiety. This powerful visual juxtaposes childhood vulnerability with the destructive spectacle of corporate broadcast, offering a chilling commentary on historical trauma, propaganda, and the emotional impact of televised war imagery.
