Varsity Records Socks

Description: Varsity Records was one of two labels that comprised the United States Record Company; Royale Records was the other. Eli Oberstein created the USRC in the summer of 1939, shortly after he left an executive position at RCA Victor. Varsity was considered a "budget" label, specializing in popular music and selling records for 35 cents each. Royale was more expensive, at 75 cents a record, and specialized in classical music.

Grants Known For Values 1906 Socks
Main Tag:

Description: In 1906 the first "W. T. Grant Co. 25 Cent Store" opened in Lynn, Massachusetts. Modest profit, coupled with a fast turnover of inventory, allowed the stores to grow to almost $100 million annual sales by 1936. By the time Grant died in 1972 at age 96, his chain of W. T. Grant Stores had grown to almost 1,200. At the company's end, headquarters were atop One Astor Plaza, a prominent building of New York City's skyline on Times Square. Grant's stores were slower than others to adapt to the growth of the suburbs and the change in shopping habits that this entailed, and the attempt to correct this was belated. W. T. Grant's bankruptcy in 1976, which was the then-second biggest in US history.

Mirwood Records Socks

Description: Mirwood Records was an American record label founded by former Vee-Jay executive Randy Wood in Los Angeles in 1965. The Mirwood label was a sister label to Mira Records. It primarily released rhythm and blues and jazz recordings, and has been described as "among the definitive Northern soul labels". Many of its records were written and produced by Fred Smith and arranged by James Carmichael, who (according to Jason Ankeny at AllMusic) "hone[d] a distinctive style all their own, creating soul music that was both relentlessly energetic and sweetly sophisticated, topped off by trademark vibes that evoked the otherworldly beauty of a Pacific Ocean sunset".

The owner was Zelma "Zell" Sanders (1922–1976), one of the few woman label owners in the record business. In the early 1950s Sanders was managing a girl vocal group, The Hearts. She arranged a contract for them on New York's Baton Records and hired and fired members until she got the mix she wanted. In mid-1956 she decided to start her own label, J & S Records.

Incredible Universe 1992 Socks
Main Tag:

Description: Incredible Universe was the name of a chain of consumer electronics stores in the early to mid '90s that were a joint venture between Tandy Corporation and Trans World Entertainment. A typical store was 185,000 square feet of sales floor and warehouse, stocking around 85,000 items. The store's borrowed philosophies from theme parks with retail departments being "scenes," employees were "cast members," customers were "guests,"and so forth. The stores featured a large rotunda area with a stage where sales presentations, product demonstrations, autograph signings, and musical acts could perform. Retail departments (software, music and video, and accessories) were accessible from the rotunda, making it a hub of sorts for the store.
