Description: The Flood Memorial Monument (also known as the Flood Memorial Obelisk) is a prominent historical landmark on the banks of the Red River in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It serves as a literal, physical yardstick mapping out the region's long struggle with the Red River of the North. 1997: The highest band at the top represents the devastating "500-year flood". The river crested at an unprecedented 54.35 feet, forcing the total evacuation of over 50,000 residents across Grand Forks, ND, and East Grand Forks, MN. Description: A Red River Valley League played several seasons as a semi–pro league before the league evolved to become a full minor league in 1897. The Red River Valley League began minor league baseball play in the 1897 season as a Class F league. The Four charter teams were the Moorhead Barmaids, Grand Forks Senators/Black Stockings, Wahpeton–Breckenridge Methodists and Fargo Divorcees/Fargo Red Stockings. The league presidents were Chauncey Wheeler and Senator W.A. Gordon, who also served as manager of Grand Forks. Player salaries were capped at $40.00 per month by the league.
Description: When I was 18, I wanted to get the heck out of my hometown of Burnsville, MN for something completely different. I enrolled in North Dakota State University and fell in love with Fargo. Eventually, North Dakota became my second home. The wonderful people and the beautiful simplicity of the landscape will always live in my heart.
