They released two albums, Bellybutton (1990) and Spilt Milk (1993), that proved influential to many subsequent acts in a similar vein. During their five-year existence, Jellyfish attracted critical acclaim and a devoted cult following, but struggled against prevailing rock trends (hair metal and grunge), leading to them calling it quits in 1994.

Description: In the mid-60s, young people flocked to San Francisco's Haight and Ashbury neighborhood, attracted by the area's cheap rent. In 1965, the first hippie boutique opened at 1510 Haight Street in the Doolan-Larson Building. The storefront here was owned by a 24-year-old young woman named Peggy Caserta who named her place Mnasidika, a reference to the first known lesbians in written history (see The Songs of Bilitis by Pierre Louÿs). Among her friends and customers were counterculture artists and musicians, most of whom would go on to be big names, but all bought their jeans, tees, and other fashion essentials from her little neighborhood storefront. Mnasidika closed after the Summer of Love in 1968, but the space as it was remains today.

Their self-titled first album was released in 1967 on Kama Sutra Records. A second hit, "Postcard from Jamaica," peaked at 88 on the Hot 100 in April 1967. The band was defunct by the end of 1967, but reformed in 1971 with all but one original member to record their second and final album, The Miraculous Hump Returns from the Moon.
