The Emporium was a typical mid-seventies arcade with billiards, foosball, air hockey, and some of the earliest examples of commercial video games. Description: Armadillo World Headquarters (also known as The 'Dillo or Armadillo WHQ) was an influential Texas music hall and beer garden in Austin, Texas. Located in an old National Guard armory tucked behind a skating ring at 525 1⁄2 Barton Springs Road, just south of the Colorado River and downtown Austin, The 'Dillo flourished from 1970 to 1980. The venue officially opened on August 7, 1970, with Shiva's Headband, the Hub City Movers, and Whistler performing, and caught on quickly with Austin's counterculture thanks to the cheap admission and that the hall tolerated illicit drug use. The final concert at the Armadillo took place on December 31, 1980. The sold-out NYE show featured Asleep at the Wheel and Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen.
Description: The "Austin Senators" is the name of various minor league baseball teams based in Austin, Texas, United States which played on-and-off between 1898 and 1964. Different incarnations of the Senators have played in the Texas League (1888–1890, 1905, 1907–1908, 1911–1914, 1956–1967), Texas-Southern League (1896), South Texas League (1906) Middle Texas League (1915) and Texas Association (1925–1926). In 1915, the Senators moved to the Middle Texas League and won two games as the "Austin Representatives" before relocating to Taylor, Texas due to severe flooding.
Description: The Ritz Theatre was built in 1929 by J.J. Hegman, who owned several movie theaters in Austin, Texas. Originally a long narrow space, the Ritz was the first theater in Austin to be built specifically for the talkies, aka films with synchronized sound. The theater opened on October 13, 1929, and operated continuously as a theatre until closing in 1964. The Ritz was reopened in 1970 as a XXX grindhouse, which closed to make way for a new music venue in 1974. The venue struggled until new management took over the space in 1981 and reopened it as a punk rock club, opening the doors for an influx of punk rock and hardcore into the Austin music scene. Violence inherent to punk rock shows eventually cost the operators their liquor license.
