Its namesake beer, Schlitz ( /ˈʃlɪts/), was known as "The beer that made Milwaukee famous" and was advertised with the slogan "When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer".Schlitz first became the largest beer producer in the US in 1902 and enjoyed that status at several points during the first half of the 20th century, exchanging the title with Anheuser-Busch multiple times during the 1950s.
Description: You may look at a black lager in a pint glass and shout “stout!” or “porter!” And that’s a fair mistake, considering you can only tell so much from looking at a beer. But what differentiates a Black Lager from other dark beers, especially stouts and porters, is a relatively lighter body, with roasty dark notes from the malts stopping well short of any stout-level depth. Fewer fruity esters play in the roastiness since this is a lager style beer. Instead, hops step in and provide an assertive but pleasant bitterness. Referred to as “Schwarzbier” in Germany (literally “black beer”) and American Black Lager in the U.S., it’s a good option for depth without as much body, dark and mysterious but still refreshing and quenchingly dry.
Description: In February 1872, a group of eight beer loving German innkeepers got together in Rixdorf (present day Neukölln), to brew their own beer, organizing as Vereinsbrauerei Berliner Gastwirte zu Berlin AG. Their first batch was a bottom-fermented Pilsner, and much to everyone's surprise, it was really good. Inspired, they continued to hone their craft and by the turn of the century, they were ready to move beyond craft brewing and go big. The innkeepers delivered free cases of their brew to every single bar, restaurant, and inn throughout Berlin. Their strategy worked as orders began flooding in, and within a decade, Berliner Kindl had become the most popular beer in Berlin.
Description: Löwenbräu is a brewery in Munich. Its name is German for "lion's brew". Most Löwenbräu beers are marketed as being brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot, the Bavarian beer purity regulation of 1516. Löwenbräu claims to have been founded around 1383. In 1524, Jörg Schnaitter, a pierprew, is mentioned in connection with the property at the address 17 Löwengrube. The brewery was first mentioned in 1746 in the Munich tax records.
Description: The Hemelinger Actien Brauerei was a brewery that had been based in what was then a Bremen suburb and is now the district of Hemelingen since 1878. In 1921, the Aktienbrauerei was taken over by Beck & Co. The HAB brewery was closed in 1981. The original company premises on Hemelinger Bahnhofstrasse were used for a long time as a branch and distribution warehouse for Beck & Co. and as a bottling plant for Bremer Erfrischungsgetränke GmbH (concessionaire for Coca-Cola). In 2007, the company was taken over by Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke GmbH ; the site was closed on July 1, 2016.
Description: Phillip Jung Brewing Co opened in 1896 and closed in 1920 it was open for 24 years. Items from breweries of this age tend to be more common and less valuable than some breweries. Early items can still be valuable as can rarer types of items. As a Pre-Prohibition Brewery, any advertising items or collectibles are likely to be valuable and desirable to collectors as they tend to be hard to find. Phillip Jung Brewing Co was in an active brewing city. Milwaukee, WI was listed as having 74 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors.

Description: What is imperial pilsner? Imperial pilsner is a bolder, fuller and stronger version of a traditional pilsner beer. It’s a lager beer that is typically brewed with more malt and hops than a standard pilsner, resulting in a higher alcohol content and a more intense flavour. This new take on the generally light and easy-drinking beer also usually means a sweeter malt profile than toastier pilsners, with spicier and more pronounced hops to balance out the added alcohol. Imperial pilsners range from six per cent to nine per cent alcohol by volume (ABV), compared with common pilsners, which tend to be between 4.5 per cent and five per cent ABV.
Description: The brewery did well in the 1930s and 1940s. It was a regional beer judging from where their cans have been dumped, mostly southern California and Arizona. Zobelein died in 1936 and his son took over the brewery. They introduced cans in 1937 choosing flat tops such as my can-of-the-month above. They sold Eastside Beer, Eastside Ale, and in 1939 introduced a premium beer called Luxury Extra Dry Pilsner. Eastside Beer remained their big seller however. (Eastside Ale cans are quite scarce and Luxury was never canned). They also canned Brown Derby Beer for Safeway stores in the 1930s.
Description: Frankenmuth Brewery is a brewery and restaurant in Frankenmuth, Michigan. It is one of the oldest breweries in Michigan.The business closed in 2003 and reopened in 2009. Martin Heubisch and Wilhelm Knaust built a brewery in 1862. John G. Geyer bought it in 1874 and renamed it Geyer Bros. Brewing Co. In 1987 it was purchased out of bankruptcy for $365,000 by Ervin Industries and Ferdinand M. Schumacher, who renamed the business Frankenmuth Brewery, Inc. Randall E. Heine bought majority ownership from Ervin Industries in 1990. Heine sold as many as 13,000 barrels of beer in 25 states before an F3 tornado on June 21, 1996, tore through "Little Bavaria", downtown Frankenmuth.
Description: The Valentin Blatz Brewing Company was an American brewery based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It produced Blatz Beer from 1851 until 1959, when the label was sold to Pabst Brewing Company. Blatz beer is currently produced by the Miller Brewing Company of Milwaukee, under contract for Pabst Brewing Company. Johann Braun opened City Brewery in 1846. Valentin Blatz established a brewery next door in 1850 and merged both breweries upon Braun's death in 1852. In that year, Valentin's little brewery produced 350 barrels of lager. That beer was for local consumption only, due to short shelf-life. In 1868 Blatz's brewery produced 16,000 barrels.
Description: Hasseröder is a brewery in Wernigerode, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The company started in 1872, founded by Robert Hoppe under the name zum Auerhahn ("the Capercaillie"), in the Wernigerode district of Hasserode. In 1882 Ernst Schreyer assumed control of the brewery. In 1896 the brewery became a stock company (Aktiengesellschaft, AG), and in the same year put out 25,000 hectoliters of beer. It was renamed Hasseröder Brauerei in 1920.
Description: Billy Beer is a brand of beer first made in the United States in July 1977, by the Falls City Brewing Company. It was promoted by Billy Carter, whose older brother Jimmy was then the President of the United States. In October 1978, Falls City announced that it was closing after less than a year of Carter's promotion. The beer was produced by Cold Spring Brewing, West End Brewing, and Pearl Brewing Company.
Description: Quandt Brewing Co. Inc. opened in 1933 and closed in 1942 it was open for 9 years. Quandt's Brewing was active during Prohibition which makes it an oddity. Some breweries were able to stay in business by producing "near-beer" which was very low alcohol, some switched over to bottling sodas or other beverages, some became Ice-houses or other related businesses. Quandt Brewing Co. Inc. was in an active brewing city. Troy, NY was listed as having 34 breweries, which is quite a few. Sometimes a large number of breweries can lead to an active collecting community that will be willing to pay more for breweriana items than other collectors.
