Description: Alitalia was the national airline of Italy and its largest carrier for decades, headquartered in Fiumicino near Rome. Founded in 1946, Alitalia operated as a state-owned airline until its privatization in 2009. After years of financial struggles and failed acquisition attempts, the Italian government regained control in March 2020. Operating a modern fleet from its main hub at Rome–Fiumicino International Airport (Leonardo da Vinci Airport), Alitalia served 34 scheduled domestic, European, and intercontinental destinations. The airline also maintained codeshare agreements with 42 global carriers. On October 15, 2021, Alitalia officially ceased operations, marking the end of an era in Italian aviation history.
