With the advent of shark fin trade still not completely prohibited within UK, I thought it would be good to add 'a bit more awareness to the sharks' which we depend on - in particular, that of the rays... With their uncharacteristic shape, more like a flattened diamond shape than anything, and not looking like a typical shark, believe it or not - the rays were not recognised as sharks in SE Asia, until I mentioned something on the island of Borneo... Biremis blandi is a member of the phyla Annelida. It was first observed by the pilot of the deep sea submersible Alvin, Ed Bland, for whom it was named. The fluffy looking ball is actually a mass of tentacles, which are used for finding and collecting food.
