Dissected cadaver with flayed skin. Artwork from Juan Valverde de Amusco's Anatomia del Corpo Humano (Anatomy of the Human Body), published 1560, showing a dissected cadaver holding a dissecting knife and his skin. The superficial muscles of the head, torso and limbs have been revealed. Valverde was a medieval anatomist born in Spain in 1525.

The inside of the eye is filled with a clear gel, the vitreous humour. At top and bottom are the eye muscles (muscles of the orbit, red).
