Hungerford Bridge Stickers

Looking through the arch of the bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal at Hungerford in Berkshire. Ahead are some canal boats moored at The Wharf. The Kennet and Avon Canal flows through Hungerford on its way to Newbury in the east and Marlborough in the west. Now peaceful and picturesque, in the mid 1800s, the wharf was a hive of activity with boats loading and unloading at the many industrial buildings then lining its banks. Hungerford is a picturesque market town known for its antique shops.

Standing on the bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal at Hungerford in West Berkshire on a bright, frosty morning in early December. This is the view looking eastwards. Carry on along here and you reach Reading, the Thames and eventually London. Hungerford is a picturesque old market town near the border with Wiltshire, famed for its antique shops. Peaceful now but once busy with working boats carrying their loads between Bristol and London.

This elegant footbridge, No. 83, crosses over the Kennet and Avon Canal is at Hungerford in Berkshire, England. It's found to the east and just downstream of the town's wharf and road bridge, In the early to mid 19th century the canal was once busy with commercial traffic transporting goods such as Bath stone for the grand buildings then springing up in the area. The canal, 87 miles long, was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to provide a link between Bristol and London avoiding the rough roads.

It's a cold winter's morning at Hungerford Wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal. There's ice floating on the surface of the water but at least it's bright and sunny! In the foreground is 'The Rose of Hungerford' a wide beam boat which takes visitors for trips along this lovely waterway. Hungerford itself is a picturesque market town in the extreme west of Berkshire, well known for its antique shops.

Ducks are gathered here as it's a favourite place to be fed! This is very near the centre of the town - its wide, tree-lined high street famous for its antique shops. Here at the Wharf it was once a hive of industry with boats loading and unloading their cargoes. Now it's a peaceful place to sit - and feed the ducks!
