In a cold wintery landscape, somewhere in the wilderness of the American Wild West, a powerful warrior horse stands atop a snow covered hill looking across a valley to where smoke rises in the distance over thick fir trees. Dark clouds fill the overcast sky, and the winds of winter blow harsh through the painted appaloosa's dark mane and tail. From the artist: I created this in December of 2021. The weather in Atlanta, however, was not at all wintery and was warm enough to go outside in short sleeves. I guess I missed the cold a bit, and it put me in a mood to create some real winter scenes. An old pinto coated war horse, once the companion of an American Indian warrior, somehow still wears the Native American war paint of its younger days. This powerful equestrian leads two other wild mustangs out of a wilderness valley in the American Wild West. In the distance, a huge rocky mountain, dusted with the snows of the oncoming winter, rises into the sky. The wind blows through the long manes and tails of these three animals as they make their way of a hill covered in the golden grass of the late autumn season. For this artwork, I wanted to go for something a bit more grandiose than my usual scenes. I started with the idea for an epic rocky mountain and constructed the image around that. The Brave in this image shows just how close of a relationship the Native Americans had with their horses.

A pair of warriors... An American Indian woman stands next to her horse. In one hand, she tenderly holds her companion's head, and, in the other, she grasps a large, sharp knife. She's dressed in brown deerskin clothes and wears war paint on her face. Likewise, the dapple gray Native American war pony standing beside her is also painted for battle. Both of them gaze back at you intently. From the Artist: Typically, I prefer to create scenes where you can see the full body of the characters. For this work, though, I wanted to try something a bit different and move in closer, creating almost a portrait. I rather like the way it turned out as it puts such a strong focus on the two.
