The Great Kiva Interior Aztec Ruins New Mexico by Debra Martz The Great Kiva was a sanctuary and a place for people to meet for community events. This large and restored Kiva is located in the area known as the West Ruins plaza. Archeologist Earl Morris excavated it in 1921 and rebuilt it in 1934. But why named Aztec Ruins? From the brochure, "Don't be fooled by the name. These structures were not built by the Aztec Indians of central Mexico buy by ancestral Pueblo people who lived here centuries before the Aztec empire prospered. Red and Black at Sunrise is a combination of a post edited back ground with an overlay made from clips of long exposure photos and distorted for artistic affects to create a beautiful and unique abstract. In native american cultures black can be for strength, victory and courage; Red for blood and the earth; while yellow is for light and rebirth.

Five Feathers is a creation of long exposure, nature based abstracts and a little special effects combined with my feather design. Five is a symbolic number in many spiritual teachings and ancient cultures. Five is the number of elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. Coloration is natural.

In the Ojibwe language, "nookomis" means "my grandmother" and was the name of Hiawatha's grandmother in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, The Song of Hiawatha. Some Indian folklore suggests that Nokomis still watches over the lake - Lake Nokomis.
