Sitting, as it does, beside the River Nene in the Northamptonshire village of Fotheringhay makes the splendid church of St Mary and All Saints look even more stunning. It's renowned for containing a mausoleum to leading members of the Yorkist dynasty of the Wars of the Roses. The church was constructed in the 15th century. Fotheringhay village is also famous for being the place where Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned and, eventually, beheaded.

This beautiful rolling countryside of Fawsley with sheep and lambs in the fields. Fawsley is a hamlet and civil parish in the Daventry district of the county of Northamptonshire, England.

A red kite searching for food on thermals over the farm fields of Northamptonshire on a Spring day. Although the red kite is a bird of prey, red kites usually feed on carrion but will occasionally take small birds and earth worms as food. The red kite was extinct in England for many years but has now been successfully reintroduced and the call of the red kite can now be heard in many places around the UK.

Strolling along a Northamptonshire footpath on a sunny Summer's day, along with the buzzing of the bees, you're likely to hear the call of a red kite (Milvus Milvus) that will be soaring high on a thermal in the blue sky or, later in the day, heading for it's evening roost. The Red Kite became extinct in the UK but has been the subject of a successful reintroduction programme - particularly in Wales and in Northamptonshire.,

All Saints' Church, Earls Barton is a noted Anglo-Saxon Church of England parish church in Earls Barton, Northamptonshire. It is estimated that the building dates from the later tenth century, shortly after Danish raids on England. A red kite soaring high on thermals in a Summer sky as it uses its incredible eyesight to search for prey across the Northamptonshire countryside. Red Kites are top predators and have a varied diet, eating both live and dead prey. Red Kites were once common, but persecution drove them almost to extinction in Britain. Following reintroductions of Red Kites from Europe in the 1980s, the numbers have slowly been increasing.

In Many parts of the UK, warm Summer days are blessed with the sight and sound of a red kite soaring high on thermals. The birds are the result of a successful reintroduction programme, particularly in Wales, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, where this picture was taken.

The path through the Spring bluebells and other Spring flowers heads towards the dappled sunlight shining through the trees of Southwick Wood in Northamptonshire which is a remnant of Rockingham Forest, an old royal hunting forest. The wood has oak, ash, field maple and hazel trees.

Although the red kite is regarded as a bird of prey its usual diet is of carrion and worms, although it will very occasionally take small mammals. It was successfully reintroduced into England and is now gradually spreading throughout the country. The bird here was is pictured against a digitally added sky and was taken in Northamptonshire.
