A depiction of those that have fallen, with sybolism of the cross, the poppy and growth, life and death... parting. Lest we forget those that have given for their life for our survival... Remembering War and not celebrating War. Remembering those that have fallen... Peace, serenity and purity be upon you. Amen. 10% of the proceeds of this artwork will be donated to the Royal British Legion ~ whom I am thankful to - for their support.

Inspired by another local photographers work and a piece that I wished to emulate in a different manner... I set out to Church Island to make this capture... It wasn't exactly as I expected and so I could see that I would be making heavy revisions in post to better represent - what I had set out with and to envision. Without destroying the surrounding plant structures - I worked in post as best as can to clear up the clutter and strengthen the already strong granite structure of the cross... and for some reason - I think that it looked much better in bold monochrome - than in colour... so I shot it in black and white and worked on it heavily in post. The statue 1101, locally known as Tommy is of a First World War British Tommy, striking a pose of tiredness. Tommy sits on the seafront at Seaham Harbour in County Durham and was recently voted the best art work in the UK. Here the image has been enhanced with the important words 'Lest We Forget'. The stone poppy is recreated each year on the approach to Remembrance Sunday and differs in style.

The National Memorial Arboretum. Two large bronze sculptures form the centrepiece of the Memorial. These represent loss and sacrifice and stand on either side of a bronze laurel wreath. To the north, a Serviceman is raised aloft on a stretcher by comrades. On either side family members look on - a mother clasped by a child and an older couple clutching each other in anguish. It bears witness to the cost of armed conflict to those left behind - the families, loved ones and friends who live with the pain and consequence of their loss for the rest of their lives.
