River Douro Stickers

A city and its cloudy sky

A city print representing “Ribeira”, one of Porto’s most beautiful neighborhoods. As one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, the area is filled with winding medieval streets and small cobblestone alleyways. A definite must-visit in the city!

This is Porto, or Oporto in Portugal, a beautiful city with a great history and it is also the home of Port Wine. The boats in the foreground are called Rabelos and they were traditionally used to transport barrels of Port wine from the Vineyards further up the River Douro, down to the wine caves and lodges in Porto where it matures and becomes vintage port. Nowadays the boats are mainly used for boat trips up and down the river. The bridge in the background is very famous, it is a double decker metal arch bridge andit is called Dom Luis 1 Bridge.

A view of the Dom Louís1 Bridge which spans the River Douro in Porto, Portugal. This fine, two-tiered metal structure dates from 1886 although it was not fully completed until a year later when the lower deck was constructed. It was designed by Theophile Seyrig,a student of Gustav Eiffel. It connects Porto with Villa Nove de Gaia on the southern bank. The Douro itself starts its life in Spain, flowing into Portugal to meet the Atlantic Ocean here at Porto.

Some of the many rabelos, which take tourists on cruises up and down the Douro River, at port near midnight in Porto. This was the one photo I was adamant I wanted to get before I arrived in the city -- and even though it nearly resulted in me getting pickpocketed, I'm happy I got it.
