Description: Oíche Shamna is the Irish name for Halloween. It literally means "Samhain Night", Samhain being the Irish name for November. The Samhain festival that takes place on October 31 marks the end of harvest and the start of winter. It is a time when the walls between our world and the spirit world are weak. In order to protect themselves from the spirits people celebrated wildly and noisily, built bonfires, and dressed in disguise. These traditions live on today in Halloween.
